I arrived hitchicking. Speak rumanian, people respond in English not like other parts of Rumania. Erasmus makes people change their mind. Paintbrush factory -> Fabrica de Pensule, took me two hours because Google map sent me to the wrong place. Went to baba novac street to have tea. Met someone coming from Budapest. spoke about identities, transilvania. Different in France from 100 languages reduction to 10. Hard for a French to understand the respect for languages and identities. Hungarians from Rumania learn to speak Rumania. not colonisation but cohabitation. The majority is not nationalist. Cohabitation can exist.
Lots of Erasmus don't learn Rumanian. Rumanian have respect for other languages but students not.
Went to Iulius mall. I hate the place. fake folklore, ultra commercial.
People dong hitchhicking are old and poor. Hitch and security, for free. For a girl it is not possible, if they don t take money they will take something else.
In a cafe, discussion with a girl I don't understand homosexuality, transexual so I don't go to these places

Squats were existing 5 years ago. Fabrica de pinzule was a squat then legalized now expensive to rent. The Fabrica pays high rent to the owner of the factory.

Lived in an atmosphere of survival after what happened in the 40's. most important place in Cluj is botanical garden, reminds me of my childhood, reminds me of green countryside grandparents my homes Zorilor, campus, calea baciului, calea monistur I am in Cluj because of the university piata muzeului, hungarians and rumanians meet malls iulus and paulus -> consumerism I would situate them at the end of the world. they are either at the begining or at the end.

Irish Music pub to find opinions, share knowledge. This was my university. We had fun studying. When it closed people moved to La Gazette (privately owned space).
Babesh park best park for sport but not taken care of.
University time, Cluj became bigger and bigger. Geography dpt. Babes Belyai. Student organization. Urban fest, costumed festival. The malls were built. Erasmus students. Most of them were French, they were living in Hasdeu. Transilvaninan Film Festival.
The ZigZag club for rock music. It became the Underground a gay pub. met people having different sexual orientation, "crossed the border". They don't advertise their parties. The gay movie festival is taking place at Casa Transit. Qui One Quint, near Central Park it looks like a normal house.
Now horizon expands Fabrica de Pensule (private space rents space for artists but expensive), volunteer for Temps d'Image (international festival), danse and theater. Near the students area hasdeu, the Paint Pub (she painted the pub) L'Atelier important meeting place for artist and exchange of ideas
Cathedral to find peace, meets lot of young people there.
Boiler, very important club in Fabrica de Pensule.
AIESEC students organization, not well organized, sceptic regarding protesting, we have lost hope, we protested by helping Moldova. Moldavians were not letting students finish their studies, not giving visas. Every student org i Romania protested in their city. In Cluj it took place at Avram Iancu square.protest for basarabian students.

organized screenings at The Spot, a cultural space, bar managers are opened to this kind of offer, plaza Museu. Bars non-institutional places? You can go to a pub and see a theater performance. Cultural life of the city takes place in cafes. Few galleries. Casa Tranzit, cultural space but costs a lot to rent. Gambrinus Pub -> live stage. Flowers Tea House, very small space for live music.

Iasi bagage of stereotypes, had to destroy them all, had bad ideas about Hungarians, Romas
Romas in Cluj - defends Roma rights. If you are bad, I will give you to the Gipsies. Roma displacement. Not allowed to stay in the center of the city. Racism, bureaucracy.
Nationalism
Nationalist maire, benches in the park were painted, walkways in the color of the Romania

Society were man rules.

Center: Townhall and administration linked to area with hospitals and universities (sexist, racist reg. hospital). Patarat expulsion of romas. this creates a triangle named authorship: who is taking decisions? The townhall takes the author positions that goes until expulsions. 67 public hospitals were closed in Romania (bankrupcy). People were coming from outside to have a second opinion on treatment.

Florest: people go to buy apartments and block flats, standardized cheap made with cheap material. Not administratively part of Cluj. Sort of suburb. creates new standard lives. For families. Friendship in mall.
Cultural Dialog
learn, go to good university but critique and masquerade is part of student life: students critique, education doesn't seem the priority, it seems more like a business. Students pay when they have lowest grades. 2 years ago, admittance policy changed: you have to apply, not to take an exam. Faculty have a certain number of free

Casa Tranzit LGBT exhibition requires cultural translation. Not to shock people. Translate from the raw queer from the Paintbrush factory for the public of the 'center'. Pulse Within the Veil. Relationship between sexuality/intimacy and sense of identity. Closeness to the subject. There is a veil between us and them.
